Announcing Search: Adjunct String Methods Instructor
The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Music invites applications for an adjunct (part-time) instrumental music education faculty member specializing in strings—specifically in teaching violin, viola, cello, bass in school ensemble and community contexts. We are seeking an individual who will teach string methods classes across the year as follows:
- String Methods 1—meets once a week for 50 minute sessions during the Fall 2024 semester
- String Methods 2—meets once a week for 50 minute sessions during the Spring 2025 semester
Courses provide first and second year instrumental music education students with foundations of string methods in the context of building music literacy skills through performing, responding, creating, and connecting. Candidates who have experience employing culturally responsive approaches, teaching music from aural and notated traditions, and/or integrating musical, social-emotional, and social justice learning goals are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree. The UMBC Music Department is particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the professoriate. Interested candidates should submit the following materials to Prof. Brian Kaufman (brian.kaufman@umbc.edu) by Monday May 6, 2024:
1. Resume/CV (attachment)
2. Three references with contact information (no letters at this time please)
