The UMBC Department of Education Research Seminar continues in November with a presentation by Dr. Ramon Goings, associate professor and director of the UMBC Language, Literacy, and Culture doctoral program. In
this presentation, Dr. Goings investigates national trends in efforts
to diversify the teaching profession and presents findings from a study
on the pivotal role of human resource officers in teacher hiring. The
research illuminates how HR officers' perceptions of teachers of color,
along with their own professional preparation, shape hiring decisions
and, ultimately, the composition of the educator workforce.
All members of the
