2020 Korenman Lecture

In honor of the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, Gender, Women's, + Sexuality Studies invited Dr. Kelly Dittmar, Assistant Research Professor at the Center for American Women and Politics, to deliver the 2020 Korenman Lecture. Dr. Dittmar's work on the way that gender affects political campaigns will be a timely addition to the variety of programming UMBC is planning around voting and American political life in 2020, and she will provide valuable context for the primary elections that will be running throughout the Spring term. Her talk will be titled "Measuring Electoral Success: Gender and Intersectional Dynamics in Political Campaigns". A summary from Dr. Dittmar is below --

The electoral gains for women in the 2018 election were notable, but that numeric progress was not felt by all women nor did it yield gender parity in American politics. Beyond the numbers, measuring success in U.S. elections means considering the ways in which gender and intersectional dynamics that have created obstacles to women candidates are disrupted.

Dr. Dittmar will be on campus March 10th to deliver a public lecture at 4:00 pm in the Library Gallery.
