Consider Membership on the GWST Coordinating Committee
The Department of Gender + Women’s Studies hosts a vibrant and
diverse intellectual community that consists of nearly 100 undergraduate
students, 56 courses, and 30 Affiliate Faculty from 13 departments and programs
across the university. A unique feature of the Department is our Gender +
Women’s Studies Coordinating Committee. It is composed of faculty who engage
gender, sexuality, and women’s studies issues/analytics in their scholarship
and teaching and who want to participate in the strong academic community
supporting such work at UMBC. As part of the governance structure of the Department
of Gender + Women’s Studies, the Coordinating Committee:
- provides input to the core faculty regarding courses and curriculum,
- plans speakers such as the annual Korenman Lecture,
- organizes monthly research and teaching symposia for Affiliate Faculty,
- mentors faculty at all ranks, and
- sponsors the College Women’s Faculty Network
The Committee meets the first Friday of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a business meeting and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a research/teaching symposium.
We welcome applications from individuals who hold a full-time faculty appointment at UMBC and who share our commitment to the fields of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Interested persons should send a letter outlining their interest and expertise in the fields of women’s, gender, and/or sexuality studies to Dr. Carole McCann, Department Chair, at mccann@umbc.edu. Please respond by October 3, 2016.
