Dance Department 2014 Wrap-Up
American College Dance Festival and a New Building!
2014 was a banner year for the UMBC Dance Department. Senior dance major Alexis Renee DeVance's piece, Salt. Rose. Witness., was selected for the American College Dance Festival's National Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The piece was performed at the ACDFA's East-Central Regional Dance Festival in March 2014, where it was one of eleven dances chosen for the regional gala. Only three dances from the regional gala were selected for national recognition at the Kennedy Center. Alexis then received the top award for Outstanding Student Choreography!
The department moved into UMBC's spanking new Performing Arts and Humanities Building just in time for fall semester classes. In August, we hosted the Dance Education Training Institute, co-sponsored by Clancyworks and Baltimore County Public Schools. We're all ecstatic about our new Dance Cube and Dance Technology Studios. Find out more about these beautiful facilities here. We kicked off our performance season in October with a shared concert by Washington, D.C.- based companies Rebollar Dance and Clancyworks, and hosted the Maryland All-State Dance Auditions in December.
