Anthropology of Adornment (ANTH 397-01)
Course Description: This course explores cultural practices of body modifications, tattoos, jewelry, decoration, and sumptuary regulations in prehistoric through contemporary populations and their impact on gender, class and group identity. The course is rooted in the instructor's own research reconstructing the lifeways of ancient and modern humans based on their skeletal remains, as well as her personal background in historical costuming.
