Dr. Charles Ichoku Appointed Director of GESTAR Center II
Welcoming Dr. Ichoku to GES and GESTAR II
Congratulations to Dr. Charles Ichoku on being appointed the new director of the UMBC-led Goddard Earth Science Technology and Research (GESTAR) Center II! Dr. Ichoku will be applying his experience with remote sensing and earth science research not only as the new director of GESTAR II but also as a professor in our department. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ichoku!
Dr. Ichoku joins us from Howard University, where he has been teaching Earth and Environmental Sciences, and simultaneously serving as the Distinguished Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Science Center in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (NCAS-M). Previously, Dr. Ichoku worked as a Research Physical Scientist with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for 20 years. He earned his Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the Pierre & Marie Curie University, Paris, France, after earning both his M.S. in Remote Sensing and his B.S. in Surveying from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
