Description

Founded in 2024 by conductor Kenneth Slowik, the Smithsonian Academy Orchestra is a resident ensemble of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, a program of the National Museum of American History. The Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from Bach to Schöenberg, all performed on period-appropriate instruments, and in this program will present works by Haydn and Brahms:

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) — Symphony No. 94 "Surprise" (1791)
Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) — Serenade No. 1 in D (1858)

The Smithsonian Academy Orchestra is a program of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, presented in cooperation with The Smithsonian Associates, and made possible by the generous support of The Honorable John FW Rogers and Goldman Sachs.
