Description
The UMBC Department of Music in partnership with the Piacenza Conservatory in Italy presents soprano Ana Spasić in concert. With a powerful voice, Ana Spasić communicates descriptive emotional expressions, drawing vocally in space with a sonic force derived from Italian lyric opera. With her wide range of expression, she has performed in many music festivals, from soloing at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence to singing with the European Contemporary Orchestra at the George Enescu in Bucharest. Spasić’s repertoire ranges from traditional to special programs such as “flautata voce” (flute-like voice) for flute and voice. FUTURvoice, a vocal solo recital based on Italian Futurism, was presented for the first time in Spoleto (Italy) for the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale A. Belli.

Spasić has recorded several CDs and DVDs, most recently a live interpretation of In nova fert for solo voice by Daniele Lombardi on a DVD based on his collaboration with the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci. A native of Serbia, she started her training with Russian influences as well as a wide range of jazz singing in Belgrade. Later she graduated as a soprano soloist from the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Nicolini in Italy, and completed a post-graduate degree at Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. Spasić also studied music therapy in Padua and Modena (both members of Université Européenne Jean Monnet Bruxelles) in June 2009 in Brussels. She spent one semester in Germany at Staatliche Musik Hochschule, Trossingen, and won a scholarship from the International Wagner Foundation for the prestigious Bayreuth Festival. In 2010 she received an award at the Valentino Bucchi International Singing Competition for 20th Century Music in Rome.
